What wildlife can I see at Point Lobos?
The undisturbed and pristine surrounds of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve makes this a perfect place to view wildlife. You're almost certain to see the sea otters for which Point Lobos is known, as well as other marine mammals like sea lions, harbor seals, and dolphins. There's even whale watching during the winter. On land, deer, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, and brush rabbits. You may see great blue herons, western gulls, woodpeckers, and songbirds.
What is the Whalers Cabin Museum?
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Whalers Cabin Museum is a cultural resource that pays respect to the area's history and the Chinese and Japanese fishermen who lived here in the 1850s. Converted to a museum in 1987, it now displays a collection of artifacts like Native American jewelry, grinding mortars, Chinese fishing equipment, photographs, models, and more. Knowledgeable docents will be on hand to put the exhibits in context.
