Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast, leading mariners to safety off the rocky shores of the Monterey Peninsula since 1855. Today in addition to informative tours, the lighthouse aids navigation operations by the United States Coast Guard, which during World War II officially took over operations of Point Lobos Lighthouse. Pacific Grove's city government is currently restoring the lighthouse, in collaboration with the Heritage Society of Pacific Grove.
